LA – Planning a Fashion Shoot

Question 1.

  • In your own words, describe the procedure of planning a fashion shoot. You don’t need to go into too much detail, a short outline will do.

You should figure out a Theme or Concept for the shoot, when that is done you should create a Moodboard & Storyboard. Then considering where the shoot are going to happen Studio or outside you maybe need to book a studio, or if it’s an outside shoot you will need to go location scout. When all that is done you choose a model. After that you will have to find a stylist and/or additional staff that you need for the shoot. Then make a shotlist to organize your day and make sure you won’t forget anything. Then do the preparations for, (time schedule, art direction, model direction, crew).

  • What are the stylist’s duties?

In charge of costumes and props. The stylist is also responsible that the costume get to set in time and fit the model, they are also responsible for costume changes and that the right props are used with the right costumes.

  • List your duties as photographer

Well I guess it depends on what type of photographer you are, in which field you work, It depends on what type of job you are hired for as well. But one thing all photographers have as a duty is to make sure they have the right equipment for the shot they were hired to do.

  • What equipment would you take along on the Alice in Wonderland shoot that was featured in this module?

    Same as in the module.

    • Wide angle, macro and 50 mm lenses
    • Camera body
    • Memory cards
    • Battery chargers
    • Light set
    • Diffuse boxes

  • Find an editorial fashion spread in a fashion magazine. Explain what you think the concept was, what equipment they used and how the location affected the concept. Scan or photograph the shoot and hand it in along with your answer.

I don’t know where to get a hold of a fashon magazine where i am at the moment so I found one online I hope that will be alright.

What I think was the concept is like a night club photographer, I don’t know how to explain it we call it “Mingelbilder” in Sweden. It’s like they are lounging in a chill area of a night club, or backstage at some event perhaps.

They have taken the pictures with flash, so I believe that they have used an external flash with an umbrella to get some softer and more spread out lightning of the model and her clothes but still keep hard shadows and dramatic contrast. It looks to me that they have used a lens with a focal length about 25mm to 35mm based on how it looks through my 18mm lens camera. The one on the left they might have used a little wider lens than the one on the right.

The background I think is good for the photos, it shows the models relaxing and seems to fit the concept i think they were going for, both have a color that helps the models and clothing to pop as well, and the lines drawn with the furniture and the models helps even more for my concept that this would have been taken in the heat of the moment sporadically at a club or event.
